Welcome to JH Therapies

I believe that mental health is not separate from being human.

Throughout my work as a therapist, and through my own lived experience, I have come to understand that anxiety, depression, addiction, trauma, grief, burnout and many of the struggles we face are often not signs that something is wrong with us. They are understandable responses to what we have experienced, what we have carried, and the ways we have learned to survive.

That understanding sits at the heart of JH Therapies.

I don't believe people need fixing. I believe they deserve to be understood.

My approach is rooted in compassion and curiosity. Together, we'll gently explore not only the symptoms that bring you here, but also the experiences that shaped them. By working with both the mind and the body, I aim to help you reconnect with yourself, build resilience, and move towards a life that feels more grounded, meaningful and authentic.

Healing isn't about becoming someone different.

It's about remembering who you are beneath everything you've had to carry.

Hello, I'm Juanita.

If you've found your way here, I hope you'll already have a sense of what matters most to me—that healing begins with feeling safe, understood and accepted.

Some of my happiest moments are spent outdoors. Whether I'm walking through woodland, standing beside a waterfall or simply enjoying the fresh air (even on a rainy Scottish day!), nature reminds me that growth isn't always linear.

We weather storms.

We put down roots.

And often, we find strength in places we never expected.

That perspective shapes both my life and the way I work.

My own life experiences, together with more than ten years of supporting people as a Person-Centred Therapist, have taught me that people are not broken. We each carry a unique story, and many of the struggles we experience are understandable responses to what we've lived through and the ways we've learned to survive.

Today, I integrate Person-Centred Therapy with Somatic Trauma Therapy, Indirect Myofascial Trauma Release, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, breathwork, mindfulness and outdoor therapy. Alongside my professional training, I have also experienced these approaches through my own personal journey. Although it wasn't always an easy process, it changed the way I understood healing and reinforced my belief that lasting change happens when we include both the mind and the body. That understanding continues to shape the way I work today.

JH Therapies has also been shaped by someone very close to me who lived with the effects of trauma throughout much of their life. They belonged to a generation where trauma and its impact on the body weren't understood as they are today. Their story has shaped the therapist I am today and continues to inspire my vision of making compassionate, holistic therapy accessible to more people.

If you choose to work with me, my hope is that you'll find a space where you feel able to take things at your own pace—where you can feel heard, accepted and supported as we work together to understand your story and reconnect with the parts of yourself that may have been lost along the way.

Because I don't believe healing is about becoming someone different.

I believe it's about coming home to yourself.

What you can Expect

When you begin therapy with me, you don't need to have all the answers or know exactly where to start.

My role isn't to tell you who you should be. It's to offer a safe, compassionate space where we can gently explore your experiences together, at a pace that feels right for you.

Healing isn't about fixing what's broken.

It's about understanding your story, reconnecting with yourself, and discovering new ways to move forward with greater self-compassion and resilience.

Person - Centred Talk Therapy

Person-centred therapy is a gentle and supportive talking therapy that puts you at the centre. It is based on the idea that everyone has the ability to grow, heal, and make positive changes when they are given the right support.Rather than telling you what to do or giving advice, your therapist offers a safe, confidential space where you can talk openly about whatever is on your mind.

Somatic Trauma Therapy

Somatic Trauma Therapy is a gentle, body-based approach that helps you heal the impact of stress or trauma by reconnecting with your body’s natural ability to regulate and feel safe again. Instead of focusing only on talking about the past, we pay attention to what’s happening in your body right now—your breath, tension, sensations, and emotions—so healing can unfold from the inside out.

Myofascial Trauma Release

Indirect Myofascial Trauma Release Therapy is a gentle, fully clothed approach to releasing tension held in the body’s fascia—the connective tissue surrounding muscles, nerves, and organs. Instead of using force, this method follows the body’s natural lines of ease, allowing it to soften and unwind at a comfortable pace.

Outdoor Walk & Talk

For some people, being outdoors creates a different kind of therapeutic space. Walking in nature can help regulate the nervous system, encourage reflection and create room to breathe.

Testimonial 1

“I started to see Juanita at a time of transition in my life and I was unsure how I would cope with the changes. Juanita is easy to talk to and I felt at ease from the start. She gave me the space I needed to talk through the things of concern and reflect on how I might embrace the changes.  Juanita’s gentle challenging helped me to realise that there could be a different way of doing things and I felt I learnt a bit more about myself, my automatic responses to things, and how to nurture the parts of me I had neglected. I left the sessions feeling stronger and better equipped to look after myself.”    ~  FL

Testimonial 2

"The sessions helped me a lot and I improved tremendously after each one. Juanita is very passionate about all this and she has a gentle way of being and softly challenged me during our discussions. She also gave me the opportunity to work on my issues outside of sessions with some small suggestions that I could implement by myself or questions to meditate about. It was a pleasure going to the sessions and I looked forward to speaking with her weekly."~  IP

Testimonial 3

"I attended therapy sessions with Juanita at a pretty low point in my life and I found them to be a huge help. She listened without judgement and asked the right kind of questions that really helped my thought process. I was reticent and nervous to begin with at the thought of going to therapy sessions - it's a daunting prospect if you've never been before. But I'm extremely glad that I did. The sessions were very good for me and I'd recommend Juanita to anyone considering therapy of their own, whatever the motivation or situation".  ~ AM
